P004 → David MellorHopkins Architects
In early summer 2024, I photographed the David Mellor Cutlery factory and café, a stunning example of contemporary design by Hopkins Architects in Hathersage, Derbyshire. Built on the foundations of an old gasholder, the circular stone structure features a floating radial roof with exposed steel trusses and a conical lantern, seamlessly blending modern innovation with local craftsmanship. The factory, shop, café, and design museum collectively celebrate Mellor’s legacy of precision and artistry in a setting that harmonizes with the surrounding landscape.
